Choosing a Glamping Structure for Your Property

With so many details to consider when launching a glamping project, the prospect of choosing the right glamping structure can seem like a daunting task. Luckily, this can be a relatively straightforward process when you take all of the details of your project and goals into consideration.

Structure Types

  • Common structures

    • Safari/Canvas Tents

    • Bell Tents

    • Domes

    • Yurts

  • Less common structures types

    • Tree Houses

    • Tiny homes

    • Containers

    • Towers

    • Huts/bungalows/pods

Location and Seasonality

When choosing a structure type, you’ll want to consider how seasonality will impact your ability to rent year-round. If you plan to stay open only during warmer months, you’ll be more interested in structures that provide ventilation and cooling. If you plan to have guests visiting your property in all four seasons, you’ll also need to think about how the structure type you choose will affect their safety and comfort during the winter months. Typically, tents are best suited for warmer months, while domes and yurts can be easily winterized and rented out during all seasons.

Size of Operation

Both the size and number of the units you choose will depend on the kind of experience you want to provide for your guests and your long-term vision for your property . You’ll want to consider if you prefer to host families, couples, events, etc. and if the proximity of the accommodations and facilities onsite will provide enough space and privacy for guests.

Choosing a Manufacturer

Once you’ve decided on your structure type, you can start looking at manufacturer options. Vendors offer a wide variety of fabrics, furniture and add-ons, so you’ll want to compare offerings and pricing before making a decision. Connecting with a vendor early on in process is important, as manufacturing and shipping can take several weeks once an order is placed.
