Conestoga Wagon Company: Blending History and Luxury in Glamping
Glamping continues to evolve, offering travelers unique and luxurious outdoor experiences. One company at the forefront of this movement is Conestoga Wagon Company, blending history, innovation, and high-quality craftsmanship to redefine outdoor hospitality. We had the opportunity to speak with them about their journey, innovations, and impact on the glamping industry.
A Journey Rooted in History
How did you get started in the glamping industry?
We started Conestoga Wagon Company with the goal of offering a unique accommodation experience in the glamping industry. With the Oregon Trail and pioneer history of our valley, we saw an opportunity to provide guests with an immersive experience that connects them to the past. These wagons are deeply tied to our country’s history, and that connection has proven to be a major draw. The uniqueness of our wagons has helped properties across the country find success in the glamping world.
A Unique Approach to Glamping
What sets your approach apart?
Our approach to glamping focuses on creating a “wow factor” while allowing guests to make lasting memories. We offer the chance to step out of the present and into a historical setting, without sacrificing modern luxuries. One of our standout features is our wagon restrooms—we don’t use RV-grade materials, and our restrooms are fully enclosed and walled in, preventing moisture issues and eliminating concerns about mold. These restrooms are also California-compliant and set a new standard for luxury amenities in glamping accommodations.
Pushing the Boundaries of Innovation
What’s the most innovative thing your company has done in the last year?
Our latest innovation is the hard-sided Ranch Wagon, modeled after traditional western sheep camps but elevated tenfold. This 35-foot-long, 13-foot-tall, 10-foot-wide structure combines the look of a wagon with the comfort of a home, featuring insulated tin siding and a Mitsubishi mini-split system for climate control. This design extends the glamping season, allowing properties to maximize revenue without sacrificing comfort.

Commitment to Sustainability
How do you incorporate sustainability into your business?
By providing a high-quality product built to last, we reduce maintenance and warranty concerns for our clients. Our wagons are designed to perform at the highest level, ensuring long-term profitability for glamping properties. We focus on durability and performance, helping our clients grow and succeed without frequent repairs or replacements.
Raising Industry Standards
What’s one product, service, or idea you wish existed in the glamping industry?
One major issue in the glamping industry is the tendency to cut corners on restrooms. High-quality restrooms directly impact premium nightly rates, yet many properties skimp on this key element. We have made it our mission to elevate restroom quality with our luxury restroom pods and shower houses, using only commercial-grade materials that are both durable and stylish.
The Power of Community & Collaboration
How does collaboration play a role in your business?
The glamping industry is a close-knit community, and collaboration is key to success. We actively partner with companies like Stone Bank, Leavitt Insurances, and Montana Canvas to create a network that supports and uplifts businesses in the industry. Working together helps not only us but also our clients and their guests.
Making an Impact
Can you share a story of how your work has positively impacted a community?
One of our most meaningful partnerships has been with the Jae Foundation, a suicide awareness and prevention nonprofit based in Twin Falls, Idaho. They use our wagons for summer retreats and youth programs, creating a safe and comforting space for individuals in need. We are honored to support their mission and participate in their annual fundraising auctions.
The Future of Glamping
What’s the next big shift in consumer expectations?
We’re seeing a shift away from rustic glamping experiences toward all-in-one, high-end accommodations. More guests want fully equipped units with private luxury restrooms, rather than shared facilities. We’ve adapted to this trend by ensuring our wagons offer high-end, private restrooms that set a new industry standard.
What challenges do you see in the industry, and how are you addressing them?
One of the biggest challenges is cheap knock-offs that reduce product quality and hurt the industry’s reputation. We are committed to maintaining craftsmanship and quality, ensuring that our products set the benchmark for excellence in glamping.
Celebrating a Milestone
Can you share a recent success story?
This year marks our 10-year anniversary, a significant milestone in the evolving glamping industry. Over the past decade, we have continued to innovate, introducing products like the Lux Wagon, Ranch Wagon, cabins, tents, and shower houses. Our experience and dedication to quality have helped us build a reputation as a leader in the glamping space.
Looking ahead, we remain committed to innovation, sustainability, and enhancing the guest experience—proving that glamping can be both a tribute to history and a step toward the future.
