Meet Kelsey Sheofsky, CEO and Founder of Shelter Co.

Kelsey Sheofsky, founder and CEO of Shelter Co., was born and raised in the Bay Area in California.

In college, Kelsey took an interest in design, so following her graduation she enrolled in an interior architecture and design school while working at a design firm.

Kelsey later discovered her passion and talent for event planning and production through the process of planning her own wedding, eventually landing a gig working with an established company within the industry. She loved both the client interaction and design aspects that came with the job, but Kelsey knew she ultimately wanted to start her own business venture.

During a trip with her husband, she realized there was an opportunity to create a new market by adding accommodations to areas with potential event space and no hotels.

That trip marked the beginning of Shelter Co. From there, Kelsey began researching manufacturers and planning for the first unit, which went up Christmas morning.

Glamping was a relatively new concept in 2012 when Shelter Co. first launched, so her family and friends had some initial doubts about whether or not it would be a profitable venture. After seeing the units and learning more about her business plan, Kelsey’s loved ones saw Shelter Co.’s potential and came together to help her create the initial website content.

Kelsey was confident from the beginning that this would be a successful endeavor, and as Shelter Co. began to combine the glamping rental side with the event planning side, inventory and demand began to grow. She knew she had created something special.

Today, the scope has outgrown the original business plan and Shelter Co. has become a company that creates solutions for all outdoor events - not just overnight.
