AGA Connection Story: Building Something Beautiful — Flatspot Decking Services x Impi Canvas
The AGA Connection Story series highlights real collaborations and partnerships within the glamping industry — moments when members come together to create, innovate, and support one another. Each story celebrates how community and connection drive growth, spark ideas, and strengthen the shared mission of elevating outdoor hospitality.
In the world of glamping, great design is often the result of collaboration — the coming together of craftsmanship, creativity, and shared vision. That’s exactly what happened when Flatspot Decking Services and Impi Canvas, both members of the American Glamping Association, joined forces ahead of this year’s Glamping Show Americas.
“We initially met a few months ago,” said Trenton Hensley, founder of Flatspot Decking Services, “but our connection really came to life right before the show. Impi Canvas was gearing up for the event and needed a deck to complement their tent. It was the perfect opportunity for us to team up — combining their beautifully designed structures with our modular decking to create a cohesive, inviting showcase.”
For Impi Canvas, who specialize in crafting stunning luxury safari tents, the partnership was just what they needed to make their display stand out.
“Flatspot built a deck to our specifications,” they shared. “It looked amazing and really elevated the presentation of our tent. The show was a great success for us — having that complete setup made a huge difference.”
Together, the two companies brought something special to the event — a seamless blend of craftsmanship and creativity that reflected the heart of the outdoor hospitality industry: collaboration and innovation.
But the partnership came with a lighthearted twist.
“When Impi Canvas asked if they could drill holes in our deck,” Trenton laughed, “we were a little taken aback at first! Of course, we agreed — but we couldn’t help wondering what exactly they had in mind. Once their tent went up, the mystery was solved — the large piles supporting the structure passed right through our deck and into the ground. Even though it was a rental, we were happy to accommodate. Thanks to our modular system, we could easily swap out the boards afterward. It turned out to be a fun reminder of just how flexible our decking design really is.”
Both teams agree that the future of glamping design lies in the balance between luxury and sustainability — spaces that invite guests to connect with nature without sacrificing comfort.
“Glamping design is moving toward spaces that blend luxury with sustainability,” said Trenton. “Guests are looking for comfort without compromising their connection to nature, so designs now emphasize eco-friendly materials, modular builds, and flexible layouts.”
“We’re seeing more demand for larger, semi-permanent structures,” added Impi Canvas. “Our clients want tents that feel like boutique retreats — high ceilings, wide open views, and durable materials that can handle the elements.”
When asked what operators should look for in a manufacturer or partner, both emphasized the importance of trust and teamwork.
“Look for a manufacturer who understands both form and function,” Trenton advised. “Someone who can deliver durable, modular structures that install quickly and complement the natural environment — and who works with you from design through installation.”
“A trustworthy company where the owner is involved with clients makes all the difference,” noted Impi Canvas. “It’s about people as much as product.”
And when it comes to dreaming big, both companies already have their eyes on the stars — quite literally.
“Our modular decking system is our dream product,” said Trenton. “It levels perfectly, installs in hours instead of days, and adapts to just about any terrain.”
“Our dream tent would have big pieces of textile, huge windows, and a see-through roof,” said Impi Canvas. “So guests can look up and watch the stars at night.”
From decking to design, this partnership between Flatspot and Impi Canvas embodies what the AGA community is all about — connection, creativity, and collaboration in action. Together, they built more than just a showcase — they built a story worth sharing.
