AGA Member Spotlight: Joe & Rose Duemig

Joe and Rose Duemig founded App My Community in the summer of 2017. Joe has been a developer with a focus on user experience for twenty years, working for startups and companies as large as State Farm, Oracle, and Caterpillar, Inc. Between Joe’s education and experience in technology and Rose’s guest experience background in the hospitality industry, including Ritz Carlton, they were able to build a guest experience platform for outdoor hospitality.

App My Community builds individual apps for campgrounds, resorts, and chambers of commerce. The apps are fully customizable and branded for each individual community with many features to enhance the guest experience and streamline processes. App My Community partners with over 140 communities across the United States and Canada.

Q: Tell us a bit more about why you started a company in the glamping industry.

A: While camping at a beautiful resort the Summer of 2017, Joe, Rose and their family found a few different communication gaps between the resort and us, as a guest, and decided to build App My Community. Why not put all of those handouts in one place and allow the resort to communicate in real time? As our company continues to grow, the flexibility of App My Community also continues to grow to fit every size and shape of community available.

Q: Tell us a bit about where your glamping business is today? Where do you see your business in the future?

A: As we continue to work with more in the Glamping industry, one thing that stands out is how each one is unique and strives to put the guest experience first. We are excited to be a part of this revolution in the outdoor hospitality space to create a seamless and memorable experience.

We are excited to continue to add features that support the needs of both the Hosts and their guests. As RV’ers ourselves, we make a point to travel to visit some of our customers each year. From a guest perspective, we share ideas of what they can add to their mobile app and hear from them what could add more value to themselves and their guests.

Q: What are you most excited about within the glamping industry moving forward?

A: Coming from a hotel background, I am excited to see the bar rising for the outdoor hospitality industry. There is so much creativity and opportunity in this space while still providing an exceptional guest experience.

Q: Do you have any advice for those that are just starting out?

A: Create a road map and goals. It’s okay to divert as opportunities present themselves, and don’t forget to celebrate all of the wins. This will give you the encouragement to keep going. Also, there are so many great resources amongst others in the industry. Utilize their knowledge and experiences to help you grow and learn.
